Forget Roses, Bruce Eccles is “Coming Up Diamonds”!

Bruce Eccles, owner of Eccles Auto Service in Dundas was presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal on Wednesday, November 14th at Horseshoe Valley Resort in Barrie.

The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal is a new commemorative medal created to mark the 2012 celebration of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. It serves to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.

Bruce was nominated by the Automotive Industries Association and is among 38 automotive professionals to receive the honour this year, due to his career-long involvement in professional development and government initiatives within the industry. A sought-after speaker by the AIA and its American affiliate, he is a vocal advocate who is passionate about forging strategic partnerships with suppliers in the automotive industry, and encouraging other business-owners to increase their business growth through the use of industry training, updated computer software solutions, website utilization, advertising and social media.

This is a tremendous honour for Bruce, who survived a harrowing motorcycle accident in 2010. He and his staff have been serving the community of Dundas and the surrounding area since 1984. Eccles Auto Service Inc. is a family owned and operated business that focuses on exceptional service and quality workmanship.

DUNDAS AUTO REPAIR PROFESSIONAL NAMED

“THE CANADIAN TECHNICIAN OF THE YEAR”

 

TORONTO – Jeff Taylor, an automotive service technician in Dundas, ON, has been named The 2005 Canadian Technician of the Year by Canadian Technician magazine.

Taylor, who works at Eccles Automotive Service in Dundas, ON, was one of 42 nominees for the prestigious award recognizing the accomplishments and work ethic of automotive repair and service professionals.

“The Canadian Technician of the Year competition celebrates the automotive technician as a whole person – highly skilled, well trained, customer oriented, and community minded,” said Canadian Technician editor Allan Janssen. “Jeff is an example of the kind of technician consumers deserve. Not only is he incredibly competent and intuitive, he provides excellent customer service, and is active in his community.”

“This is really incredible,” Taylor said upon being notified of his win. “I feel so honoured to be given this award because it’s a judgment of your peers, and an assessment of who you are, both as a technician and as a person. That’s really something.”

Taylor’s being named Canadian Technician of the Year did not surprise his boss, Bruce Eccles, who nominated him.

“He’s gone from pumping gas in 1984 to top technician in 2005,” said Eccles. “He’s a hard worker and a truly gifted technician.”

Taylor will be honored at a gala ceremony at Legendary Motorcar Company in Milton, ON, on Thursday, November 17, 2005.

As the Canadian Technician of the Year, Taylor wins $5,000 in cash plus $10,000 in prizes ranging from power tools, to home entertainment equipment, to a deluxe professional tool storage cabinet.

He will also be the feature subject of a cover story in the December 2005 issue of Canadian Technician magazine.

Soon after starting as a gas jockey at Eccles Auto Service in 1984, Taylor showed promise as a repair technician. Within months he began his apprenticeship to become licensed. Soon he was taking on the toughest diagnostic challenges, and becoming proficient on high-tech engine scan tools.

In 2001 he entered ACDelco’s Technician of the Millennium competition, placing first in his region (Central Ontario) which qualified him to compete at the North American finals in North Carolina. In 2003, he entered the competition again, placing first in his region and again competing at the North American finals in Las Vegas.

Because of his performances at these competitions, he was among a handful of technicians chosen to be featured in ACDelco’s international trade advertising campaign throughout 2005.

In addition to excelling as an automotive technician, Taylor is plugged into his community, involved in charitable fundraising efforts for the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, and preparing parade floats for the local Cactus Festival.

Above all, Taylor is an ambassador for his trade, proud of what he does and committed to the highest level of customer service. It is these attributes, taken together, which earned him top marks from judges in the Canadian Technician of the Year competition.

It is the second year for the competition, sponsored by eight manufacturing and distribution companies serving the automotive aftermarket: Snap-on Tools, Robert Bosch, Inc., Spicer Professional Grade Chassis (Affinia Canada Corp.), Gates Canada, Inc., Activant Solutions Inc., The E.R.I. Group, Havoline (ChevronTexaco), and Mevotech Inc.
